Orientation Checklist

In order to be in good standing with the university, new students need to complete term start requirements. The final deadline to complete these requirements is:

Fall term: Jul 19, 2013
Winter term: Nov 1, 2013
Spring term: Mar 11, 2014

If you do not complete term start requirements, your housing assignments may be removed and holds will be placed on your account.

In Good Standing Steps

• Send in reservation fee
• Complete Housing Contract and Roommate Questionnaire (if living on campus)
• Submit completed Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) (for US citizens and resident aliens only) and any requested documents to Student Financial Services
• Make payment plan and submit necessary payment with Student Financial Services
• Submit completed Health Services forms (physical within last year and updated immunizations)
• International students should submit required documents. Contact the office directly (305-892-7554) to ensure your records are complete.
• Submit final high school transcript with proof of high school diploma

Things to Do

• If eligible, complete work study form
• Register for and attend Summer, Winter or Spring Orientation
• Transfer students must submit official transcripts, with final grades, to Admissions (transfer students enrolled in a summer course should bring final transcripts to Term Start)
• Make hotel reservations (if needed)
• Print schedule from jwuLink
• Submit parking permit

Things to Bring

• If living in campus housing, check Residential Life for list of items to bring
• If eligible for work study, check list of acceptable original documentation
• If parking a car on campus, check parking for list of needed documents
• Plan on budgeting $700-1,400 per year for books and supplies. This is not included in your tuition. Books and supplies are available in our bookstore. You can also see required books in jwuLink class schedules.
• Our campus adheres to a professional dress policy (PDF). Culinary and baking & pastry majors will be issued uniforms by the bookstore during Orientation. Hospitality and business majors must provide their own professional attire.

Important Notes

• As a first time student, you must attend Orientation, even if you meet the term start requirements deadline.
• You must meet term start requirements every term. For future terms, it is your responsibility to access your records on jwuLink to view any holds that may have been placed on your account.
• Culinary and baking & pastry majors will be issued uniforms during Orientation.
• New students will be required to take a placement exam in math and English during Orientation.

Congratulations! When you have completed all of these steps, you are ready to attend Johnson & Wales University. If you have not completed all of these steps, please do so as soon as possible before your scheduled orientation session & term start deadline. This will maximize your visit and prevent long lines.
