Academic Assessment
You will be scheduled to take academic placement exams during Orientation. This assists with placement in general studies courses.
With few exceptions, JWU requires all new students to undergo academic assessment in math, sentence skills and a reading essay.
Assessments are MANDATORY before classes begin in the fall.
Students who have transfer/AP credits ONLY for English Composition must attend testing.
It is recommended that you brush up on your math, computer and sentence skills prior to testing, as your test scores will determine your fall class schedule. Placement testing materials are available.
Exemptions from Testing Students who have been awarded transfer/AP credit for JWU course ENG1020 are exempt from the Essay & Sentence skills test.Students who have been awarded transfer/AP credit for JWU courses MATH1002, MATH1010 or MATH1020 (or any college level Algebra or higher level math course) are exempt from the Math test.
Disabilities If you have a documented disability and are requesting testing accommodations, forward your documentation at least 2 weeks prior to your scheduled assessment to ensure appropriate accommodations can be arranged. No accommodations will be provided without appropriate documentation or if documentation is submitted on the day of assessment.
