Other Hotel Options You will also find a variety of hotels in Charlotte at many different price points. The university is located in the Uptown area of Charlotte. Hotels.com, expedia.com and travelocity.com may be helpful when researching hotels.

During the Democratic National Convention (Monday, Sep 3 – Thursday, Sep 6) many hotels will have limited, if any, vacancy and higher rates. If your travel plans necessitate an overnight stay during the dates of the DNC, we recommend looking in some of these outlying areas for hotel accommodations:

North Carolina

• Mecklenburg County: Matthews, Pineville, Huntersville, Cornelius, Davidson
• Union County: Monroe
• Cabarrus County: Concord, Kannapolis (Note that a DNC kick-off picnic will take place at the Charlotte Motor Speedway on Monday, Sept 3. Hotel availability may be limited at that time)
• Iredell County: Mooresville
• Gaston County: Gastonia, Belmont, Mount Holly

South Carolina: York County: Fort Mill, Rock Hill

You may also want to consider staying overnight at a stop along your route that is outside of Charlotte, and driving the remaining distance on the day you are assigned to attend Wildcat Welcome.
