  • Democratic National Convention in Charlotte

We are excited about the Democratic National Convention (DNC) coming to Charlotte the week of September 3. This historical event will bring countless opportunities for volunteerism, learning and networking.

Monday, Sep 3 – Thursday, Sep 6 The logistics of this event will make getting to campus and maneuvering around the Uptown area very challenging on these days.

For this reason, the university has decided to postpone the first day of classes to Monday, Sep 10.

The first three days of the convention will be held at the Time Warner Cable Arena.

The last night, Thursday, Sep 6, will be held at Bank of America Stadium, directly behind our new Student Center. We anticipate that this event will have extremely heightened security as this is the night Barack Obama is expected to deliver his nomination acceptance speech.

Planning We strongly encourage new incoming students to use this website, your Student Guide and other information outlets to plan ahead for Wildcat Welcome. Advance planning is absolutely necessary due to the close proximity of our campus to convention events.

New students and family members should be learn about the impact of the DNC on your visit to Charlotte during start of school in the fall. Along with this website, it can help you plan lodging and parking and understand security information.

We are eagerly anticipating your arrival on campus, and hope you are equally excited about being a part of the incoming class!
