How many credits are required to maintain full-time status? See Student Academic Services (graduate/student requirements) for details.

When are classes offered? The Alan Shawn Feinstein Graduate School offers afternoon and evening classes allowing students to complete their education on an evening schedule or choose to take afternoon classes when available. The Graduate School offers a fast track schedule for selected majors where qualified students will graduate in one calendar year.

What is the Graduate School's accreditation information? See graduate program accreditation.

Is financial aid available? In order to be eligible for financial aid programs, the student must meet the following criteria:
› demonstrate financial need
› maintain satisfactory academic progress
› be enrolled in a degree or certificate program
› be enrolled on a least a half-time basis (4.5 quarter credits per term)
› be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or eligible non-citizen
› not owe a refund on a Federal Pell Grant or be in default on a Federal Perkins Loan, Federal Subsidized or Unsubsidized Stafford Loan, Parent Loan or Supplemental Loan
› sign a statement of educational purpose, a statement of registration status, and a statement on overpayments and defaults

Are scholarships available? Each year, the Graduate Admissions office awards a limited number of scholarships to graduate school applicants who are accepted as full-time students and reflect an ability to excel in their chosen program. The total amount of each scholarship is $1,000 and the scholarship will be credited to the student’s account in equal installments over three consecutive terms. The student must maintain a full-time status while in receipt of the scholarship. A scholarship form is located in the back of the catalog. Scholarship applications must be submitted with the application for graduate school. Scholarship recipients are notified with the letter of acceptance.

Who can apply to the Alan Shawn Feinstein Graduate School? Students seeking admission to Johnson & Wales graduate programs must hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. The applicant should have maintained a minimum grade point average of 2.75 or its equivalent. Students with a grade point average below 2.75 should contact the director of the Alan Shawn Feinstein Graduate School Admissions to determine additional requirements needed for consideration of their application for admission.

Is there an application fee? Applying to J&W is free!

Is there an application deadline? Applications for admission to The Alan Shawn Feinstein Graduate School are processed in the order received according to the start date specified on the application. Once all application requirements are met, the Feinstein Graduate Admissions office takes pride in the timely processing of applications. Enrollment is limited and applicants are encouraged to submit required documents at least three months prior to the date of registration.

Are GMAT/PRAXIS required for graduate admission? Scores from the PRAXIS must be submitted from students majoring in Teacher Education. Scores from the Graduate Management Achievement Test (GMAT) are recommended for consideration but are not required for admission.

What are the application requirements for domestic students? Prior to being considered for admission, all applicants must submit the following to the graduate program Admissions office:
1. A completed and signed application for admissions or online application.
2. Official transcripts documenting all undergraduate and graduate work.
3. Two letters of recommendation from individuals qualified to evaluate the applicants potential for successful completion of the graduate program.
4. Statement of purpose describing reasons for entering the program (recommended but not required).
5. Applicants that are interested in the M.B.A. in Hospitality Administration, who do not hold an undergraduate degree or diploma in the hospitality field, must submit a current resume and cover letter demonstrating at least two years of working experience in the hospitality industry.

What are the application requirements for international students? The University is authorized under federal law to enroll non-immigrant alien students. Applicants who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents of the U.S. must meet the same admissions requirements as all other applicants, in addition to supplying the following:
1. Certified copy of scores for the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) of at least 550 or 210 on the computerized TOEFL. Johnson & Wales University school TOEFL code is 3465.
2. Declaration of financial support signed by both the applicant and the sponsor
3. Certified bank statement

All of the above must be original documents. For international students only: If the original document is not available, copies which have been certified (notarized) as true copies of the original by the proper authorities may be acceptable. Faxed copies are not considered original documents.

When is my application complete? Your application is complete, when all of the above documents have been submitted to the Admissions office.

What happens after I submit my application? Once your application has been submitted, the Admissions office will process your application and an evaluation will be completed by the director. As soon as your application has been evaluated, the Admissions office will notify you with a decision. A student will receive an acceptance decision usually two weeks after all documents have been received. If documents are missing, the Admissions office will notify the student requesting the missing documents. If a student would like an interview, they may contact the Admissions office at 401-598-1015 and schedule an appointment with the director or assistant director.

How long is my application valid? Your application is valid for one year after you submit it. If you do not enter during that time, you will need to update your file with the Admissions office.

Can I visit the campus before I am accepted? Yes, to make an appointment for a campus visit, please call the Graduate Admissions office at 401-598-1015. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm. Special arrangements can be made for early evening appointments.
