Block
Name: Emily Hafner
Major: Advertising & Communications/Marketing
Graduation Year: 2008 Hometown: St. Paul, MN

Which do you prefer, MySpace or Facebook?: Facebook, no doubt.

Goal you’d like to achieve this year: Get an awesome job after graduation and leave a lasting legacy at JWU-Denver.

How do you feel about dorm living? It was an awesome experience freshman year, but I definitely need more CLOSET SPACE!

List some career goals: Become a CEO-doesn’t matter what kind of company!

Ensure a retirement fund and invest lots of money. Find my place in the workforce and be excited to wake up every morning to go to work.

Favorite professor and why: M. Brand & K. Hefley- They both have a very keen sense of what life is. I have a strong relationship with them and I’m not afraid to speak my mind in front of them. Would not replace them for the world!

Favorite campus event: Emerson Drive concert in the Chapel. One of the coolest things I’ve ever been to, plus I got to meet the band!!

Favorite music: Country. Definitely couldn’t live one day without music!

Best food on campus: I enjoy the salads from Outtakes. Filling, fresh, inexpensive….got to love it!

What do you feel you get from your education at JWU and your major? A tremendous social network. I wouldn’t give up the network I’ve made in Denver for anything. It gives me opportunities I would never be able to have anywhere else (job opportunities, volunteer opportunities, parties, events, fundraisers, etc.).

Why JWU? Upside-down curriculum. Small class sizes and enrollment. Atmosphere and environment of campus. I just got that feeling that I belonged there and still do, which is crucial to choosing the right school!

Fashion Students Explore New York City
North Miami Campus fashion merchandising students traveled to the Big Apple last term to get an inside look at the world of fashion. Beginning their trip with a tour of Chanel, students also visited Liz Claiborne’s showroom and learned about all their brands, which include Juicy Couture, Kate Spade, DKNY Jeans, Lucky Brand Jeans and Mexx.

The offices of the Tobe Report, one of the world’s most respected trend forecaster, was their next stop, and students learned how Tobe predicts trends in colors, fabrics and styles. They then spent several hours at Sean John’s showroom where they spoke with the apparel buyer, retail operations manager and human resources. Their final planned visits were at Aeropostale, where staff member and JWU alum Jose Mercado greeted them, and The Color Association, which is the oldest color and textile trade association in the U.S.
