University Alert - North Miami Campus
message from safety + security
As University President Bowen mentioned his e-mail earlier this year, campus safety and security is a top priority at Johnson & Wales University. Through the efforts of our Office of Safety & Security and Emergency Management Team, the North Miami Campus works tirelessly to keep our campus community safe.
Safety & Security continues to employ a variety of strategies to ensure officers are available and responsive.
Some of our other recent safety news includes:
- Enhancing after hours security to the University Center through the installation of swipe card access at the front door.
- Implementing the ConnectED communications system, which will allow JWU to reach students and employees immediately during emergencies. Students should check uconnect to make sure their personal and emergency contact information is updated.
- Training of floor captains, including an evacuation drill to assist the campus in responding to emergencies and the addition of emergency response guides in each classroom and public space.
- Installing the first two emergency “blue” phones in Arch Creek Parking Lot and the West Parking Lot that allow a quick connection to Safety & Security during an emergency.
- Replacing our bicycle patrols with faster golf cart patrols.
Please remember that campus safety is a shared responsibility. Students are encouraged to review the safety tips published by Safety & Security and make informed decisions regarding their property.
If you have any questions or concerns about safety or security on campus, please feel free to call the Office of Safety & Security 24 hours a day at 305-892-7011.
