providence campus safety and security at a glance
- Our safety & security officers adhere to written general orders
and procedures, which follow standards for daily operating procedures
established by the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement
Administrators.
- The safety & security staff is supplemented by a new state-of-the-art
integrated access control system, which is comprised of ID card readers,
surveillance cameras, and emergency blue light phones.
- Every campus safety & security patrol officer is certified in
CPR, First Aid, Management of Aggressive Behavior, Non-violent Crisis
Intervention techniques, and undergoes a minimum of 40 hours in-service
training annually.
- Members of campus safety & security also attend monthly meetings
of Providence Police Homeland Security Bureau and receive Flash Reports
containing a variety of pubic safety related information from both the
Providence Police and the Rhode Island State Police Fusion Center.
- Members of our risk management and safety & security departments
are active members in the Local Emergency Planning Committee; the Providence
Port Safety & Security group; the Rhode Island College & University
Campus Safety Directors, the Rhode Island Police Chief's Association;
and the Downtown Providence Security Network. These members actively
participate in emergency drills and exercises in and around the campus
area.
- The campus safety & security crime prevention officers are certified
in Community Policing through Environmental Design and routinely hold
safety and security education programs for the student body.
- Members of the campus safety & security command staff and risk
management have received both basic and advanced Incident Command System
training.
