George’s career path in the high tech industry began as a technician,
struggling to make ends meet. While standing in a line at a food bank
one day, this single father reached a turning point in his life and realized
he needed to do something to advance his career. George walked into the
Johnson & Wales satellite campus in Worcester, with kids
in tow, where staff showed him how close he was to his dream.
At Intel, George was promoted to engineer in 1999. He became involved
with the Peripheral Components Interconnect- Special Interest Group,
leading him around the world to conferences in Tokyo, Berlin, and Taipei.
Since
becoming an engineer, the validation board designs
helped him earn two local recognition awards, two Spontaneous Recognition
awards,
a Divisional Award, and a Regional Award for his involvement with the
silicon design team.
Always a J&W advocate, George lobbied Intel to include the School
of Technology in their tuition reimbursement program. Through a corporate
program, he has introduced an innovative hands-on mentorship program,
which several J&W students have participated in.
George enjoys playing
in local chess tournaments, is a member of national and state chess
associations, and coaches a student chess team. He has twice
represented Intel as a judge/commentator for science fairs and math
bees.
