After your Johnson & Wales experience, you went on to follow your chosen path of achievement and personal growth. As a university, we’ve been growing too. Since demand for our unique career education outgrew our Vail Campus, it was necessary to create a larger, more permanent home in Denver. Fortunately, we’ve been able to initiate an increasing number of programs for alumni of all of our campuses.
You remain an important member of our university community. Whether it be by registering for our alumni network to join JWU’s global alliance of 80,000 alumni living and working in more than 110 countries, or by joining a local chapter and attending regional alumni events, your opportunities to stay connected are as strong as ever.
Looking Back
In 1991, JWU received a letter from representatives of Vail Associates, Inc. who had learned of the university’s renowned culinary programs. They expressed that JWU would be a strong addition to the area and would help to greatly improve the quality of foodservice in Vail, and the surrounding resort communities.
By 1993 the university had established a one-year, accelerated culinary arts program in Vail. This specialized associate in applied science degree required incoming students to already hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. Enrollment was limited to 40 students who took part in a rigorous one year schedule divided into five terms. It was elite, exclusive and intense – qualities that allowed graduates to obtain some of the most coveted culinary jobs in the region.

A growing reputation for excellence allowed JWU to expand. Therefore, the university looked for a more permanent site in the region. When the Denver Campus opened in September 2000, the Vail program was incorporated into the larger, more traditional campus setting, to better accommodate the needs of our students.
