Science faculty strive to help students understand and appreciate the natural world and our impact on it. New discoveries in science and technology contribute to the rapid changes surrounding us. Expanding our knowledge is essential to understanding our world, our place within it, and our impact on it. Just look at the news today. Are there inherent risks in the development of bio-engineered foods? How does that compare to the pressure and need to increase food production? What are possible gains of stem cell research, and what are the possible ethical impacts of these gains? How can we balance the use of scarce resources like our national parks with the environmental impact of that use? What is the most responsible way to use limited resources? The courses offered in Science provide both a general background for all students, as well as specialized courses for students with majors in technology, medical, and nutritional fields. These courses train students to think logically, to collect, evaluate, and present scientific data properly and show how scientific principles, attitudes, and methods apply to their careers and every day life. Note: Enrolled students may search for up-to-date course information via uconnect.
