Johnson & Wales Men's Basketball Upends Lasell, 77-59

Providence, R.I. – The Johnson & Wales University men’s basketball team posted a 77-59 victory over Lasell in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at the Harborside Recreation Center on Saturday evening.
Johnson & Wales sophomore Lamonte Thomas (Providence, R.I.) scored a game-high 26 points and added eight rebounds and three assists. Junior Louis Ferreras (Providence, R.I.) tallied 14 points and six rebounds while freshman Matt Williams (Providence, R.I.) was also double figures with 13 points and three assists in the victory for the Wildcats.
Sophomore Javon Williams (Mattapan, Mass.) led the way for Lasell with 20 points and 13 rebounds while freshman Aaron Bray (Boston, Mass.) added nine points in the loss for the Lasers.
The two teams battled throughout early stages of the first half with Johnson & Wales holding a 20-18 lead with 8:37 on the clock. The Wildcats then used a 17-4 run, capped by a layup by Thomas to take the 37-22 advantage. JWU took the 37-25 lead heading into the locker room at halftime. JWU held Lasell to just 27% shooting from the field while the Lasers also committed 11 turnovers.
Johnson & Wales extended their lead to 20 points when a layup by sophomore Calvin Jones (Providence, R.I.) put the squad up 45-25 with 18:00 remaining in the contest. The Wildcats led by as many as 23 late in the second half before cruising to the 77-59 victory.
With the victory Johnson & Wales improves to 10-11 for the year, 7-7 in the GNAC while Lasell falls to 8-13, 6-8 in league play. The Wildcats will return to action on Tuesday, February 9th when they travel to St. Joseph’s of Maine for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest, starting at 7:30 p.m.
