Johnson & Wales Men's Basketball Drops 105-77 Against No. 8 UMass Dartmouth

North Dartmouth, Mass. – The Johnson & Wales University men’s basketball team dropped a 105-77 decision against No. 8 UMass Dartmouth on the road on Tuesday evening.
Sophomore Lamonte Thomas (Providence, R.I.) led the way for Johnson & Wales, scoring 17 points with six rebounds and four rebounds in the setback. Junior Justin Adams (Providence, R.I.) was also in double figures for the Wildcats with 11 points and two boards.
Matt Walker paced UMass Dartmouth with 19 points, eight rebounds and three rebounds while Jeff Macchi added 19 points, five rebounds and five assists for the Corsairs in the victory. UMass Dartmouth had five players in double figures, including Jeff Greene with 17 points and 12 boards while Brandon Stephens added 16 points, four rebounds and four assists in the win.
UMass Dartmouth led early in the contest after a layup by Greene put the Corsairs up by 22-13 with 13:30 left in the first half. Johnson & Wales responded, however and took the 32-30 advantage after a jumper by senior Richard DiLascio (West Nyack, N.Y.) with 6:48 remaining in the half. After UMass Dartmouth regained the lead on a three pointer by Stephens, making the score 41-34 with 5:10 left, the Wildcats closed out the stanza with a 15-6 run, including a layup by senior Paul Nicholson (Halifax, N.C.) with :57 left in the half en route to a 49-47 lead at halftime.
It was all UMass Dartmouth in the second half as the Corsairs controlled the action early with a 15-7 run to take the 64-54 advantage on a three pointer by Tyler Turtoro with 15:25 left on the clock. The Corsairs then cruised to the 105-77 victory, leading by as many as 31 points down the stretch after shooting nearly 60% from the field in the second half while controlling the boards with a 44-33 advantage in the contest.
With the loss Johnson & Wales falls to 0-2 while UMass Dartmouth improves to 1-0 for the year. The Wildcats will return to action on Saturday-Sunday, November 21st-22nd when they travel to the Illinois-Wesleyan Titan Tip-Off Classic. The Wildcats will face host Illinois-Wesleyan on Saturday at 8:00 p.m.
