JWU Men's Cross Country Takes 18th At NCAA Regionals

Cumberland, Maine – The Johnson & Wales University men’s cross country teams competed at the 2009 NCAA Division III New England Regional at the Twin Brooks course, hosted by the University of Southern Maine on Saturday afternoon. For the men’s squad, the Wildcats finished with 566 points, good for an 18th place finish while Williams captured the team title with 53 points. On the women’s side, JWU recorded a 34th place finish with 945 points while MIT and Middlebury tied for first place in the team standings with 63 points.

Freshman Greg Redfield (Penfield, N.Y.) was spectacular once again for Johnson & Wales, notching a 13th place finish with a time of 25:45 over the 8,000 meter course. The talented rookie will wait to hear if he has qualified for the NCAA Division III National Championships, slated for next weekend. JWU Freshman James Hartman (Osseo, Minn.) notched a 99th-place finish, recording a time of 27:23 while sophomore James Vance (Newton, Mass.) followed close behind, finishing 110th with a time of 27:29. Sophomore Kyle Reiss (North Haven, Conn.) was in 159th place at 29:20 while sophomore Nathan Smith (Jamesburg, N.J.) rounded out the scorers for JWU, running a time of 29:51, good for 185th place.
