Johnson & Wales Hockey Knocks off Salve Regina, 4-1

Portsmouth, R.I – The Johnson & Wales University hockey team posted a 4-1 victory against Salve Regina in an ECAC Northeast Contest at Portsmouth Abbey on Saturday evening.

Sophomore Jeremiah Ketts (Foristel, Mo.) put Johnson & Wales up 1-0 at the 7:08 mark of the first period, a lead the Wildcats would take to the locker room after one period of play.

The host Seahawks tied the game with less than a minute left in the second period when Bryan Russell notched an unassisted goal to tie the game 1-1 heading into the third period.

Johnson & Wales controlled action in the third period with three unanswered goals, including the game-winner just :56 seconds into the stanza from the stick of freshman Max Carter (Royal Oak, Mich.) en route to the 4-1 victory.

Junior JR Woodland (Picton, Ontario) had 35 saves in net for Johnson & Wales while Ryan Comeford made 29 stops in the setback for Salve Regina.

With the win Johnson & Wales improves to 8-13-0, 5-5-0 in the ECAC Northeast while Save Regina falls to 0-19-1 for the year, 0-9-1 in league play. The Wildcats will return to action on Wednesday, February 10th when they host Becker for an ECAC Northeast contest, starting at 7:55 p.m.
