JWU's Brennan Ward Takes Second At NCAA Division III Championship
March 6, 2010
Cedar Rapids, Iowa – Johnson & Wales University junior standout Brennan Ward (Waterbury, Conn.) notched a second place finish at the 184 pound weight class at the 2010 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championship on Saturday evening. Ward dropped a 7-4 decision against Phil Moenkedick of Concordia in the championship match. Ward became the seventh All-American in the history of the JWU wrestling program.
Ward reached the championship after pinning fourth seeded Gabe Youel of North Central College in the semifinals earlier in the day. Ward, seeded eighth, had previously pinned the tournament's top seed, Tyler Burkle of Coe College, in the quarterfinals to reach the semifinal.
In addition to Ward, freshman Colin Lenhardt (Hayes,Va.) also competed for the Wildcats and helped the squad to an 18th overall finish at the NCAA Championship.
