Criminal Justice

Bachelor of Science The goal of the criminal justice program is to prepare students for meaningful careers in law enforcement, the court system, or corrections. Through this course of study, students are expected to acquire the communication, logic, critical thinking, and ethical reasoning skills essential for the understanding of criminal justice issues and for effective career performance. The program’s judicious mix of criminal justice, business, technology, arts, and sciences courses, is intended to enhance each student’s appreciation of diversity, citizenship, leadership, science and technology, qualitative and quantitative analysis, and social and business culture.

The criminal justice program, in keeping with its unique curriculum and the varied career opportunities available to its graduates, and with the advice of both academic and career coaches, encourages students to concentrate in one or more of the concentrations offered by the School of Arts & Sciences or to pursue a collection of criminal justice electives which target the student’s interests and goals. In addition, each criminal justice student has the opportunity to participate in an externship during spring term of the senior year.

The Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice is beneficial when competing for a first job placement, as well as for career advancement. Typical career tracks for graduates of the criminal justice program may include policing on the local, state, or federal levels; court administration; corrections, probation, or parole officers; private security and loss prevention managers; and social service providers.
