Academic Dress
student commencement regalia The cost of student commencement regalia (cap, gown, hood-for bachelor degree candidates only- and tassel) is built into the Student General Fee. Bachelor's degree candidates will be wearing black cap and gown with the Johnson & Wales hood while associate degree candidates wear black cap and gown. Associate degree candidates do not wear the Johnson & Wales hood. Bachelor degree recipients must wear button-up clothing (dress shirt, blouse, dress) as their hoods will need to be attached to the top button.
When graduates arrive to their robing station at 8:00am Commencement morning, if eligible, they will receive their gold honors cords (please see preparations section for details). Culinary students will also receive their culinary medallions at this time.
commencement announcements & accessory items The commencement vendor is Herff Jones. You may purchase commencement announcements, thank you notes, class rings, and other commencement items on the Herff Jones website, which will become active on February 11, 2008. The accessory tassel available on the Herff Jones site may not be worn during commencement.
Each graduate is responsible for ordering their own cap and gown on the Herff Jones website by noon on Friday, March 28, 2008. When ordering online, you will be asked to enter your height. Women should include the height of their heels to be worn during graduation when indicating their height. Herff Jones will be in the Student Union on April 29 and 30 from 10:00am– 2:00 pm for you to pick up your cap and gown.
Only those students who have completed their employment survey from the Career Development Office will be able to pick up their cap and gown. Those students on co-op who are unable to pick up their cap and gown may do so the week prior to Commencement from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. in the Student Affairs Office. DO NOT plan to pick up your cap and gown the day of Commencement.
