Karen Swoboda oversees all aspects of the MAT and MEd programs. She has also taught EDUC5004, Introduction to Education in American Society, in the MAT program. Swoboda's public school career in Rhode Island spans nearly three decades. She taught in Narragansett, RI for 26 years as a certified reading teacher/consultant (K-12) and secondary history/social studies teacher. She also served as an administrator in the Barrington and Chariho school districts before joining JWU. Swoboda is a member of ASCD, and serves on the executive board of the RIASCD. She serves on the Board of Directors of the Center for Leadership and Educational Equity (CLEE), and is a member of the Learning Leaders Network in Rhode Island. She also represents the MAT and MEd Programs as a member of RIACTE (Rhode Island Association for Colleges of Teacher Education). She is a past member of the National Association of School Principals and the Rhode Island Association of School Principals.
