Chef's Choice Recreational Cooking Classes

Whether you’re a novice or a serious amateur — or somewhere in between — Chef’s Choice® recreational cooking classes at our Providence Campus offer something for everyone.

Chef’s Choice classes combine hands-on experience with demonstrations under the direction of our professional chef-instructors. In just three hours, you can learn knife skills, perfect your favorite pastry or explore global cuisines.

You must be at least 16 to register for Chef’s Choice, and at least 21 to register for wine classes. We also offer classes for children and teens.

How to Register
You can register online for all of our class offerings. You can also contact Adult & Continuing Education at 401-598-2336 or by email.

You can register up to one week prior to the class date, or until the class is filled. Payment must be received in advance. Costs vary depending upon the class.

Gift Certificates
Gift certificates cannot be redeemed online. To register for a class with a gift certificate, call 401-598-2336 or mail the registration to: Johnson & Wales University, Attn: Chef's Choice, 8 Abbott Park Place, Providence, RI 02903.

Refund Policy
Classes must be cancelled seven days prior to the scheduled class; JWU will then issue a credit for equal value. Cash and credit card refunds are not available. No refunds or rain checks will be issued within seven days of a class. Refunds or credit will not be issued to any registered participant who has failed to appear in class.

JWU reserves the right to cancel classes due to insufficient enrollment. In the case of inclement weather, classes will be cancelled according to the Continuing Education academic class schedule. Call 401-598-5555 for more information.

Before You Cook with Us
You’ll be working in a kitchen, so dress appropriately. Flat, rubber-soled shoes such as sneakers are required. (Open shoes and high heels are not allowed.) Please bring your own cloth apron or purchase a Chef’s Choice apron for an additional $15. (For safety reasons, plastic aprons are not allowed.)

If you have food allergies, please be aware that JWU does not guarantee an allergen-free environment; recipes may contain nuts, nut oils, shellfish, dairy, produce and other food allergens.

Special hotel packages that include one Chef’s Choice class per couple are available through the Johnson & Wales Inn and the Radisson Airport Hotel.
