Becoming a parent volunteer is a great way to support your student while sharing in his or her academic experience. Your involvement also benefits the greater JWU community. If you’d like to become involved, complete the Volunteer questionnaire.
Here are some of the ways that you can take part at the campus level.
Summer Orientation Program Parents participate in this new student orientation program by answering parents’ questions, sharing their experiences, offering advice during the question/answer sessions.
Opening Weekend Parents play a huge role in Opening Weekend, with events taking place at both the Harborside and Downcity campuses. Parents host Welcome tents, hand out maps and other helpful information, answer questions, and generally assist families new to JWU.
Serve on the Advisory Board.
Open Houses Parents participate in the seven open houses held each year for prospective students and their families answering questions and sharing their experiences.
Family Weekend In addition to welcoming parents and students to all Family Weekend events, parents also share information about and encourage parents to get involved in the Parents' Association. On Sunday, the annual Parents' Association meeting is held after the President’s Breakfast.
Welcome letters and Send-off parties Parents send welcome letters to incoming students and their families over the summer; they may also host send off parties for students living in their community who are attending the university in the fall.
