Safety & Security
Our Safety & Security officers adhere to written general orders and procedures, which follow standards for daily operation established by the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators.
The Safety & Security staff is supplemented by a new integrated access control system, which is comprised of ID card readers, surveillance cameras, and emergency blue light phones.
Every campus Safety & Security patrol officer is certified in CPR, First Aid, Management of Aggressive Behavior, Non-violent Crisis Intervention techniques, and undergoes a minimum of 40 hours in-service training annually.
Members of campus Safety & Security also attend monthly meetings of Providence Police Homeland Security Bureau and receive Flash Reports containing a variety of pubic safety-related information from both the Providence Police and the Rhode Island State Police Fusion Center.
Members of our risk management and Safety & Security departments are active members in the Local Emergency Planning Committee; the Providence Port Safety & Security group; the Rhode Island College & University Campus Safety Directors, the Rhode Island Police Chief's Association; and the Downtown Providence Security Network. These members actively participate in emergency drills and exercises in and around the campus area.
The campus Safety & Security crime prevention officers are certified in Community Policing through Environmental Design and routinely hold safety and security education programs for the student body.
Members of the campus Safety & Security command staff and risk management have received both basic and advanced Incident Command System training.
