Three JWU ‘07 graduates in the Food Service Management program helped organize, research and prepare local information for the National Association of Higher Education and Disability (AHEAD) held in Charlotte in July. The conference was attended by disability specialists from all over the country and internationally, many of whom have disabilities themselves.
Nicole Rouse, Ruth Wong and John Gumbs worked together on a class project for a Sports Entertainment and Event Management class in which they helped plan one aspect of the conference. They contacted local restaurants, hotels, attractions and transportation regarding accessibility to the facility and the availability of information in alternate formats. The students then collated their work in a binder that was used during the conference to help attendees find local attractions that were accessible.
Nicole, Ruth and John were the only students who participated in the planning of the conference statewide, and recognized as such in the conference program.
