Graphic Design, Football, Traveling

What you like best about the Media & Communication Studies major:
This field of study has always piqued my interest. The program here at JWU is a great way to fine-tune my knowledge. The students involved in this major all share the same interest but are so different in their walks of life. It's exciting to interact with them. The professors involved in the program are just as excited about media as I am and it makes for a great learning environment. All in all the program is excellent and extremely customizable to fit whatever your particular media interest may be!

What you like best about Johnson & Wales:
I love the amount of clubs Johnson & Wales offers! It's so easy to get involved with like-minded people on campus! And if their isn't a club tailored to your specific interest, it is so easy to make one!

What you like best about Providence:
Providence is amazing! Johnson & Wales's downcity campus happens to be located in the heart of the theatre district, which hosts a wide variety of shows and events.

Your name and hometown:
Emily Simonton; Augusta, Maine.

Your favorite film, song/artist/album, book, television show, magazine, newspaper, etc.:
My favorite film is Edward Scissorhands; my favorite song is "Unchained Melody"; my favorite band is the Black Keys; my favorite book is a toss-up between To Kill a Mockingbird and The Goblet of Fire; and my favorite television show is Criminal Minds.

Your career goal(s):
My career goal is to be a screenwriter, and my pipe dream is to be a movie star.

Your hobbies:
My hobbies include listening to music, watching TV and movies, writing, moonwalking, and starting a drawing to then crumple it up halfway because I'm really not that good.

What you like best about the Media & Communication Studies major:
What I like best about the Media & Communication Studies major is that it's actually something I have a passion for. If I hadn't gotten a letter from Johnson & Wales directing me to this program, I would've gone to the University of Maine - Farmington to be a teacher-- while that's all well and good, it's not something that I have necessarily been thirsting for.

What you like best about Johnson & Wales:
What I like best about Johnson & Wales is the people. They're so diverse, yet I've managed to make friends who are just like me.

What you like best about Providence:
What I like best about Providence is that it's a legitimate city. You may be saying, "But Emily, isn't Augusta the capitol of Maine?" Yes, indeed it is, but it is the saddest excuse for a city you'll ever see. It is nothing at all like Providence.

Your name and hometown:
Jocelyn Gamel; Monroeville, New Jersey

Your favorite film, song/artist/album, book, television show, magazine, newspaper, etc.:
I fade in and out of liking particular bands, but I’d say my all-time favorite would have to be Justice. My favorite magazines are National Geographic and Vogue.

Your career goal(s):
I’ve always been tentative towards what I want to do for a career, typically because I’ve always been told most of my ambitions are “tough fields to get into”. But idealistically, I want to start an iconic brand that focuses on the core of my art, music, fashion, and lifestyle choices. I would also love to work in music PR for the French electronic music label Ed Banger Records.

Your hobbies:
music production, photojournalism, minimalism, art, cooking, and getting inspired.

What you like best about the Media & Communication Studies major:
I love how diverse the major is. I’ve always been really wishy-washy about what I want to do with my life, and Media & Communication is a great degree for almost any field of work. I don’t have to worry about whether or not I’ll be able to use my degree for future endeavors.

What you like best about Johnson & Wales:
Johnson & Wales knows how to take care of its students. The faculty is able to supply anything that students might need. Whether it is helpful resources, accommodations at the dining halls, or even late night bus transportation, JWU is supportive. I also really appreciate the fact that I can use my student ID to ride the RIPTA.

What you like best about Providence:
Providence is great because of the close-knit community of universities. For being basically just a large town, Providence is remarkably lively. There’s such a variety of people to get to know and to learn from.

I enjoy any action or comical film. I will read any magazine or newspaper article that involves what is current but important to me. As for music, I have a love for almost everything; I study lyrics and rhythm.

Your career goal(s):
I would like to obtain a position in the music and radio business. I am also considering a mobile DJ business.
