Even before Reuben Ruiz '08 started studying culinary arts and food service management at JWU’s North Miami Campus, he’d always dreamed of appearing on the Food Network.
Food Network Dream Comes True
That dream has become a reality: Reuben is a contestant on “Food Network Star” Season 10.
“Appearing on ‘Food Network Star’ was a dream come true,” Ruiz said. “It has always been my ambition to work for Food Network, but not necessarily in front of the camera. Having this opportunity has been amazing.”
Born to a restaurant family, Ruiz has worked in food service since he was 10 years old. After struggling with his weight for many years, he lost 100 pounds. He credits the knowledge he gained in JWU’s nutrition classes with helping him make this lifestyle change.
After graduating from JWU, Ruiz opened his own restaurant, Miami Airport Café & Liquors, an establishment which serves traditional dishes from Cuba, Colombia and Central America.
