Charlotte Program Earns IMA Endorsement

The Corporate Accounting and Financial Analysis program, offered through Johnson & Wales’ Charlotte Campus, has earned endorsement by the IMA (Institute of Management Accountants), one of the largest and most respected associations focused exclusively on advancing the management accounting profession. With this recognition, JWU joins nine other schools -- including Penn State, Michigan State and Brigham Young University.

In order to earn the IMA’s endorsement, a program must submit an extensive application documenting that a minimum of 70% of the tested topics of the CMA exam are covered in the curriculum. In addition, the application requires the submission of syllabi and sample tests as evidence to demonstrate that students are taught to synthesize, analyze and evaluate each tested topic. Finally, the campus is required to designate a campus advocate, who will serve as a liaison between the school and the IMA.
“Endorsement by IMA is a great achievement that will help our undergraduate accounting students better prepare for rewarding careers in accounting and finance,” says Dawn Lopez, Assistant Professor. Moreover, according to Marcia Vinci, Associate Professor, “this endorsement should further strengthen our relationship with the IMA -- a relationship that is the result of (a) JWU faculty working with, and leading, the IMA’s Charlotte Chapter and (b) JWU student involvement with IMA events, including the 2013 National Student Leadership Conference.”
