Transportation & Parking

JWU provides regularly scheduled bus service to and from university facilities (including residence halls) throughout the academic year. Student IDs are required to board all JWU buses and vans (this policy is strictly enforced).

Services to and from the airport, bus and train stations are provided by utilizing the regularly scheduled JWU and RIPTA buses. All bus schedules are available in residence halls, Campus Safety & Security and at the Transportation Department located on the Harborside Campus. Transportation is also provided for field trips, recreational events, athletic programs and all other university functions. For more information contact the Transportation department at 401-598-1156.

Students can use their student ID as a personal pass to get around campus or Rhode Island on the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA). To ride any RIPTA bus or trolley, simply swipe your student ID through the card reader. Commuting students can use their student ID as a personal pass to get to class on RIPTA. For more information, access RIPTA schedules or call RIPTA at 401-781-9400.

When RIPTA is not available, students can park in the commuter parking lot on the Harborside campus and ride the JWU Campus-2-Campus shuttle, a ten-minute shuttle service that runs from 6:30am until 7pm, Monday through Thursday, linking the Downcity and Harborside campuses.

Parking permits are required to park at any JWU lot. Parking permits are handled solely by Safety and Security (phone 401-598-1103). Students (both resident and commuter) who plan to bring a vehicle on university property must register their vehicles with the Office of Campus Safety & Security upon arrival.

Visitors must park in designated visitor areas or obtain a temporary university parking pass.
