Sandra Tremblay is an Assistant Professor and Director of the Travel-Tourism & Hospitality Internship Program at the Johnson & Wales University Providence Campus managing 11 internship sites, recently adding G Adventures and the Newport Mansions. She also supervises and coaches 15 Teaching Assistants and 100+ interns annually. As a faculty member, her primary focus is to develop professional work experiences that emphasize personal development and career management skills for students studying travel and tourism, and through industry experience and contacts, she has cultivated partnerships with local industry providing students with meaningful work experiences.
As a component of internship, Tremblay travels globally with her interns in order for them to build international work experience as well. Her travels have spanned the globe on more than 20 student trips to France, Ireland, China, Croatia, Portugal, Costa Rica, Spain, Greece, Argentina, Uruguay, Hungary, Czech Republic, Germany, Austria, Italy, England, Iceland and Panama.Tremblay creates and develops new and innovative curricula including a course entitled “Essentials of International Food and Beverage.” Recognizing the need to heighten student awareness in sustainability, she also designed and marketed the "Costa Rica Summer Study Abroad Program," which focuses on sustainable tourism complemented with adventure tourism activities and community service. Responding to JWU's emphasis on community service and student volunteerism, Tremblay has incorporated this ethos into her internship program including, volunteering with Adopt a Family - Big Sisters of RI, Adopt a Soldier, Tour Rhode Island, T.F. Green Airport Aviation Expo, Annual International Coastal Clean Up and other environmental events such as Save the Bay and Audubon Society. She is a member of National Tour Association, Adventure Travel Trade Association, Destination Marketing Association International, and Appalachian Mountain Club.As an active faculty member, Tremblay also serves on the Steering Committee, the Outcomes Assessment Committee, Industry Ambassador Committee, the Hospitality College Awards Committee.
