ACF Winterfest Awards Bronze to North Miami Culinary Students

NORTH MIAMI, FL.— Culinary Arts students from the Johnson & Wales University (JWU) North Miami Campus recently participated in the Junior American Culinary Federation’s Winterfest Competition and won second place with a bronze medal award.
The Winterfest Competition took place at First Coast Technical College in St. Augustine, Fla. on Jan 17. Five students from the Junior ACF North Miami began practice at the beginning of this academic year and dedicated 20-30 hours per week leading up to the competition. In addition, the trip to St. Augustine was funded by various team fundraising efforts.
Bronze medal Jr. ACF North Miami winners include: team captain Catherine Gonzalez, Joseph Berta, Rebecca Lerman, Alissa Ebel, Marisa Roussell and coach Chef Ruch. Chef Lazar is the faculty advisor to the North Miami Junior ACF.
Following their impressive success at Winterfest, Jr. ACF members are back to work preparing for the Baron H. Galand Culinary Knowledge Bowl in Charlotte, North Carolina on April 18.
The purpose of the Junior ACF North Miami Chapter is to be actively involved in continuing culinary education through demos, field trips, fundraising, events and competitions. The club also promotes and encourages networking and cooperation with local industry professionals.
