Community & Economic Impact

A priority at JWU is developing students who have the skills, training and personal commitment to be strong, ethical leaders in industry and in their communities:

  • During the 2011-2012 academic year, JWU students performed 250,945 hours of community service.
  • Each JWU campus has been named to the national President’s Community Service Honor Roll several times since its inception in 2006. This is the highest federal recognition institutions for higher education can receive for supporting community service and service-learning programs.
  • JWU employs more than 2,400 people systemwide.
  • Since 2000, JWU has invested nearly $400 million in construction and renovation across its four campuses.
  • In fiscal year 2009 JWU's economic impact was $494 million. It is estimated this universitywide economic output supported the creation of more than 2,400 full-time-equivalent jobs in the four campus areas. (Source: Appleseed Inc. an independent New York City-based economic consulting firm)
