Johnson & Wales University : Addressing Affordability

Addressing Affordability

JWU is dedicated to making education as accessible and affordable as possible. The university continues to reduce the overall cost of education by increasing scholarship and grant aid.

More than 90 percent of JWU students receive federal, state or institutional aid. For 2012-2013 the university has allocated $143 million in institutional aid.

With the long-term intent of offering an affordable education, JWU:

  • uses a financial aid awarding model in which eligible students may receive a need-based university grant each year during their undergraduate program of study
  • employs dedicated financial planners who assist students with in-person counseling and education on topics that include financial aid, loan entrance agreements, private loan options and flexible payment plans
  • offers an interactive website with tools and information to help students select loan programs and lenders, clarify financial terminology, conduct outside scholarship searches, and manage finances and loan repayment options
  • provides financial literacy to assist students with borrowing and credit awareness as well as loan exit counseling to help students better understand repayment expectations and options
