Consistent and integrated graphics, language and messages enhance and expand an organization’s reputation and identity. A leader in higher education, JWU is continually strengthening the way it articulates its student-centric focus, academic quality and career education model to its audiences. The Johnson & Wales University Graphic and Editorial Standards and the Design Review Committee have been established as resources for the entire JWU community. Both serve to educate and provide guidance around the proper implementation of an aligned university identity in print publications and electronic media, signage and environmental elements, vehicle and apparel graphics, organizational collateral and visual elements.
The Design Review Committee supports university and campus administrators, faculty and staff as they apply the Standards in their collateral. This committee reviews JWU materials on an ongoing basis to ensure the consistent use of the Standards. This is approached in two ways:
Postproduction Those creating, producing and approving print materials are asked to forward all samples and designs on a monthly basis to the university director of communications. Include an explanation of the design’s intended application and any pertinent information. The Design Review Committee will meet quarterly for a postproduction analysis of these materials. Send all designs to Ed Pereira, art director, university design & editorial services, 401-598-2362, 8 Abbott Park Place, Providence, RI 02903.
Preproduction Large scale projects, such as building signage, vehicle graphics, banners and murals, must be submitted for review PRIOR to implementation. To save time and money on these typically large and expensive projects, departments and campuses are asked to work proactively with the Design Review Committee on preliminary drawings and follow-through. All other designs are reviewed postproduction.
The Design Review Committee includes:
*The campus representative will rotate across all four campuses annually, based on the academic calendar.
