Connecting Your PC Running Windows

A Network Interface Card (NIC) Ethernet connection between the modem and computer is required. The computer’s operating system should be Windows XP or greater.

Use a Cat 5 Ethernet cable to connect your PC’s Ethernet port to the Ethernet port in you room and then turn on your computer. A LED light on your PC’s NIC should become lit. If no LED is lit on your PC’s NIC then there is no Internet connectivity and you need to make sure that your room’s port is connective to the equipment in your wiring closet. Connecting to the Internet If there is a LED light on your NIC, launch an Internet browser, and attempt to browse the Web. If you can, congratulations! If you are not able to or you get an error:

For PC’s running Internet Explorer on a Window Operating System:

  • On Internet Explorer Menu Bar - Click on Tools, and select Internet Options.
  • In the “Internet Options” window click on the “Connections” Tab, click “LAN Settings”, check the Radio button beside “Automatically Detect Network Settings” and click “OK.”
  • Now you should be back at the main “Internet Options” window. Click “Setup”.
  • When the New Connection Wizard opens click “Next”
  • Select the Radio button next to “Connect to the Internet.”
  • Select the Radio button next to “Set up my connection manually.”
  • Select the Radio button next to “Connect using a broadband connection that is always on.”
  • Then Click Finish. Close the current browser window and open a new browser session. You should be able to browse the Web now!

Connecting Your PC Running Mac OS

A Network Interface Card (NIC) Ethernet connection between the modem and computer is required. The computer’s operating system should be MAC OS 8 or greater.

Use a Cat 5 Ethernet cable to connect your MAC’s Ethernet port to the Ethernet port in you room and then turn on your computer. A LED light on your MAC’s NIC should become lit. If no LED is lit on your MAC’s NIC then there is no Internet connectivity and you need to make sure that your room’s port is connective to the equipment in your wiring closet. Contact Time Warner Cable for assistance.

Connecting to the Internet If there is a LED light on you NIC, launch an Internet browser, and attempt to browse the Web. If you can, congratulations! If not, connect via cable modem.

Connecting Via Cable Modem If you are not able to browse the web, or you get an error, please do the following:

  • First, open the system preferences by selecting the Apple icon in the upper left corner
  • Select the Network icon and click open.
  • Select Build-In Ethernet from the Show pull-down menu. Select Using DHCP from the Configuration: menu.
  • Click on the Apply Now button on the bottom right hand corner.
  • The computer now should be connected to the Internet.
  • Checking the TCP/IP Configuration:
  • Open the system preferences by selecting the Apple Icon in the upper left corner.
  • Select the Network Icon, and click to open.
  • Check the Show menu indicates that Build-in Ethernet is selected.
  • Check that Configure: Using DHCP is selected, and then click on Apply Now.
  • Open a new browser session. You should be able to browse the Web now!

Call Time Warner Cable toll free at 866-872-4898. When you call, you will be asked to verify the phone number you are calling from and you must say “NO.” You will be asked for the 10-digit phone number associated with our account and you must enter the following:

Follow the prompts to upgrade, downgrade, report services issues or speak to a customer service representative.

You must advise them that you are a student at Johnson & Wales University and provide your residence hall name and address below for them to be able to be able to assist you:

You must provide your exact apartment and bedroom number and contact information. If you are setting up a service appointment, you must make it for when you when you will be available in your room.
