The Charlotte Campus' 30,000-square-foot student center opened in early 2011. Serving the entire campus community, the airy, glass-fronted center includes such amenities as:
The Student Center also houses more than 30 student clubs and organizations, from community service and student government to professional development and the cultural arts. It is built on the former residence hall parking lot on Cedar Street, adjacent to the Carolina Panthers practice field.
Speaking of how much the center will mean to students, Chris Shepard, president of the Student Government Association (SGA), laughed. "We'll finally have a home advantage in basketball!" At the groundbreaking ceremony, Arthur J. Gallagher, president of the Charlotte Campus, emphasized the long-range nature of JWU's Charlotte plans: “Our new student center is a clear demonstration of the success of our students in Charlotte, another example of how our university’s investment and our economic impact on this region will continue to grow in the years to come.” Michael Smith, CEO of Charlotte Center City Partners, said of JWU's presence in Charlotte, "You have transformed the texture of this city and raised the quality of our hospitality. We love having you here."
