To supplement the administrative and maintenance costs of the Student and Exchange Information System (SEVIS), all new F-1 visa applicants must pay a one-time I-901 SEVIS Fee of $200. This fee is not initiated by Johnson & Wales University, but by the US Federal Government.

The following students must pay the I-901 SEVIS fee:

  • Prospective F-1 students whose initial attendance I-20 form was issued on or after 9/1/04 but who are only now applying for an initial F-1 visa from outside the US
  • Current F-1 students who are applying for reinstatement after falling out of status, with an I-20 that must be dated on or after 9/1/04

The fee can be paid to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) by mail or online; payment must be accompanied by a completed I-901 Form.

Bring the I-901 SEVIS fee receipt with you to the US Embassy when you have your scheduled visa appointment.

If you have any questions about the I-901 SEVIS fee, contact a JWU international student advisor.
