To supplement the administrative and maintenance costs of the Student and Exchange Information System (SEVIS), all new J-1 visa applicants must pay a one-time I-901 SEVIS fee of $180. This fee is not initiated by Johnson & Wales University, but by the U.S. Federal Government.

Prospective J-1 exchange visitors (both students and scholars) must pay this fee

You must pay this fee if you are a prospective J-1 exchange visitor (both students and scholars) with a DS-2019 form issued on or after 9/1/04 only now applying for an initial J-1 visa from outside the US.

The fee can be paid to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) by mail or online; payment must be accompanied by a completed I-901 Form.

Bring the I-901 SEVIS fee receipt with you to the U.S. Embassy when you have your scheduled visa appointment.

If you have any questions about the I-901 SEVIS fee, contact a JWU international student advisor.
