Prior to Joining Johnson & Wales in 2009, Rex Warren enjoyed a 29-year career in the Hospitality Industry. For 11 years, he served on the Senior Leadership Team for the North America Division of Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide as Senior Vice President of Finance and CFO. In that role, he was responsible for Strategic Planning, Management Reporting and the overall finance and accounting function for Starwood’s owned and managed hotels in North America.
Before joining Starwood, Warren spent 10 years with Interstate Hotels Corporation as a Regional Director of Finance and 8 years in various management roles in hotels flying the Hilton and Marriott Flags in addition to mixed use developments. In 1983, he and his family built, opened, and operated Scampi’s Restaurant on South Padre Island, Texas. Although the family sold the restaurant four years later, it remains an institution on the Island.
Warren has served on the adjunct faculty of New York University and the University of Nevada-Las Vegas in their Hospitality programs. He currently teaches courses in marketing, strategic management, revenue management, sales & meeting management, and front office operations. He is also advisor to the Hospitality Leadership Association, our AH&LA affiliated student chapter.
Warren is a Certified Public Accountant (Texas) and a Certified Hospitality Accounting Executive (CHAE). He is a member of the American Hotel & Lodging Association.
