JWU Providence : Finance Expert Urges Students to Rethink Our Financial System

Finance Expert Urges Students to Rethink Our Financial System

Prominent financial advisor David Brochu recently came to JWU to inspire students to overhaul the financial industry — one that he says has not changed for 5,000 years.

img_dvp_brochu_pvd170x150A certified financial planner, Brochu is the president and founding partner of StrategicPoint Investment Advisors. In his presentation, “Modern Financial Markets and the Future of Capitalism,” David passionately stressed the need for a “massive rethink of how we handle, manage and use our natural resources.”

Brochu said he was talking to JWU students because he believes they will be the ones to do it.

“American leaders tend to come from 5 schools that promote myopic financial thinking,” says Brochu. “One of the reasons I love Johnson & Wales is because that doesn’t happen here.” JWU students leave the program thinking differently: they are driven to change the world.

Brochu is adamant that our financial world needs to be changed. “We are living in a time and place were our system is fundamentally flawed,” he said. “In the world of finance, we are all working off lies. Since we are all working off the same lies, though, it works. Nonetheless, this needs to change.”

In his introduction, David Mitchell, dean of the College of Business, described how even a brief conversation with Brochu had forever enriched his mind. During his hour presentation, Brochu inspired students as well, who eagerly added their voices to the discussion of change.
