The Center for Academic Support office is here to ensure that you take full advantage of your JWU education, both inside and outside the classroom. To accomplish this, the center provides tutorial and counseling assistance as well as disability services for the challenged student. Computers and printers are also available.

Tutoring
Peer tutoring is available free of charge. Tutors are JWU students who have excellent academic records and are particularly strong in the subject areas they tutor. We encourage you to sign up for an appointment ahead of time so that you are certain to get the help you want. Tutoring is offered on an individual basis or in a group.

Counseling
The members of the professional staff share tips on how to effectively manage your university life within and outside of the classroom.

Special Needs
JWU is dedicated to providing reasonable accommodations to allow learning disabled and other challenged students to succeed in their academic pursuits. While maintaining the highest academic integrity, we strive to balance scholarship with support services which will assist special needs students to function in our academic environment.

Students requesting services must provide the Coordinator for Disability Services and Testing with one of the following reports to verify the disability and to aid educational planning:

neurological/medical report by a psychiatrist, neurologist or other physician;
psychoeducational evaluation by a licensed clinician.

The Coordinator will meet with the student and discuss reasonable accommodations each term, at which time the student must sign an agreement form to implement any appropriate accommodations. Accommodations include, but are not limited to: extended time on tests, textbooks in audio format, oral testing, and class notes/peer note taker and use of a tape recorder in class.
