Sookhyun Kim has an extensive background in the global fashion merchandising and retail marketing field including textiles and apparel, supply chain management and computer aided design. Before joining the faculty at Johnson & Wales, she taught at the University of Rhode Island and Central Michigan University. Her teaching philosophy is to apply state-of-the-art technology and industry trends to her classes so the student’s knowledge is more relevant to business after graduation. This is facilitated by her industry experience with the Woolworth Company as an international merchandiser where she participated in export supply chain planning and implementation.

Kim received two research awards from major international associations which are International Textile and Apparel Association and American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences. Her research has been published in the Clothing and Textile Research Journal, Journal of Business Research, Journal of Shopping Center Research, Journal of the Korean Society of Clothing and Textiles, Journal of Textile and Apparel, Technology and Management, Journal of Retailing and Consumer Service, Journal of Global Academy of Marketing Science, and International Journal of Costume.
