Culinary Competitions

In the culinary world, speed and efficiency are just as important as a strong sense of craft. Prove you’ve got what it takes by taking part in regional, national and international culinary competitions. Test your creativity, stamina and teamwork. Or try something new and wow the judges.

Compete on Campus
Every year, culinary and baking & pastry students compete against one another at the Intra-Campus Culinary Competition (ICC), hosted at one of JWU’s four campuses.

Go for the Global Gold
Held every four years in Efurt, Germany, the IKA/Culinary Olympics are one of the most prestigious competitions in the world — and one of the most challenging. Students from all campuses work alongside JWU chef-instructors to create show-stopping hot and cold platters. Due to the high level of skill required, this is recommended for juniors and seniors.

Brew It Up
The annual Ocean State Homebrew Competition is aimed at home brewers of fine beers, ciders and meads. It is hosted and organized by JbreW, the Providence Campus’ brewing club.

Recipe for Success
Often focusing on single ingredients or a particular genre of food, recipe competitions happen throughout the year and often include cash prizes or scholarships. They’re also great additions to any culinary resume. Recent competitions include the S&D Coffee’s Tea Recipe Contest and the Vegetarian Times Chef’s Challenge.
