Ad Club Students Place 3rd in USA with Creative Campaign

How do you prove you can create an advertising campaign that works? For Ad Club students at Johnson & Wales University, placing third at the National Student Advertising Competition didn't hurt.

What Do Women Want?
Our Ad Team students had to create an advertising/media campaign for JCPenney, this year’s sponsor. Their challenge? Come up with a way to bring in (and retain) new female customers ages 25-34.

Ad Team students celebrate their victory“‘Simplify’ was our campaign strategy," says Ryan Healey ’12.

"We did our research, and we realized these women are overwhelmed. There's too much choice.”

Real Feedback from a Real Client
So the students kept in minimal. “We gave them really clean ads," Ryan says. "And we put the prices in the ads, which stood out.”

The team got to pitch their ideas to executives from JCPenney and top ad agencies at the NSAC Districts in April, where they won first place.

Then, they went to Nationals in San Diego in June, where they competed against 15 other district winners representing the best of the over 150 colleges nationwide.

“The judges liked it," Ryan says. "And they gave us great feedback at Districts, so we were able to make our presentation for Nationals even better."
