"I made the best decision of my life by coming to Johnson & Wales," Sarah says. She wanted a career in sports events, and she knew she could get the work experience to make it happen at JWU.
My Transfer Story Sarah Pinsonault '10, from Dorset, VT Sports/Entertainment/Even Management majorHow did you decide to transfer to JWU? I was focused on a career in sports. School wasn’t very important to me. I probably slacked a lot. I applied to one college. The
only problem was, I wasn’t learning anything.
I wasn’t being
challenged. I would look around class, like, “Why am I the smart one?
I’ve never been the smart one.” I called my parents and said “I have to get out of here!” Not learning anything started to scare me. I didn’t have any confidence in my degree. I’d always wanted to go to JWU. The second I came down to the Charlotte Campus, I loved it. I loved that there was such a diverse amount of sports businesses and teams here. When did you know you made the right choice? We had a guest speaker from the Ritz Carlton. Every word that came out of that man’s mouth went right to my heart. I walked out of that with tears in my eyes. It was that moment that made me realize “I’m doing the right thing. I’m where I’m supposed to be." What’s your advice to transfer students? “Never sacrifice opportunity for security” is one of my favorite quotes. Transferring was the scariest move ever.
But I’ve been able to do all these really cool things because I didn’t let that get in the way.
