Before joining Johnson & Wales University in 2004, Martha Griffin taught English Composition and Poetry at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Her major areas of expertise are nineteenth-century British and American literature. A writer of literary criticism, her other areas of interest include feminist theory and transatlantic literary studies.

Griffin is a member of the North American Victorian Studies Association, and an active member of Friends of the Library at UNC Chapel Hill.
