Welcome Center Earns LEED Certification

PROVIDENCE, RI – October 25, 2011 - Johnson & Wales University continues to go green. Our new Grace Welcome Center has been awarded LEED Gold Certification for new construction by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

JWU's Multiple Green Certifications
LEED is a third party certification program and a nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings.

Our LEED certified welcome center maximizes views of the Harborside Campus and Narragansett BayJWU worked with Vision 3 Architects, one of Rhode Island’s leading sustainable architectural and interior design firms.

Building materials, fixtures and furniture selections were chosen for their environmentally friendly characteristics and reduced impact on the environment.

The 7,700-square-foot building is our second LEED Certified Building, after our Cuisinart Center for Culinary Excellence.

Maximizing a Water View
The center makes the most of our location on Providence’s waterfront.

The building façade consists mainly of large spans of glass to offer visitors’ views of the campus, maximize natural light and views of Narragansett Bay, with an outdoor terrace and amphitheater for special functions and receptions.
