JWU Providence : Community Service Awards

Community Service Awards

President’s Honor Roll
For the past five years, the Providence Campus has been named to the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll.

Princeton Review's College with a Conscience
We were selected from 900 schools to be featured in The Princeton Review's "Colleges with a Conscience: 81 Great Schools with Outstanding Community Involvement."

We were chosen because of our institutionalization of service and service-learning throughout the Providence Campus: our admissions practices and scholarships rewarding community service, our student body's level of social engagement and our support for service-learning programs, student activism and student voice in school governance.

Carnegie Foundation Recognition
We were also recognized by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching for our work in the Rhode Island community.

JWU is one of 118 institutions of higher education throughout the country — and the only one from Rhode Island — to be selected for Carnegie’s 2008 Community Engagement Classification for Curricular Engagement and Outreach & Partnerships.

National Daily Point of Light
Our Feinstein Community Service Center was named a National Daily Point of Light by President George W. Bush and the Points of Light Foundation for outstanding volunteer service in the community.

Templeton Guide to College & Character
The Center’s service-learning program was also nominated for publication in "The Templeton Guide to College and Character,” part of The John Templeton Foundation’s national initiative to recognize outstanding college preparation that fosters personal and civic responsibility.
