PROVIDENCE, RI — May 2, 2012 — JWU’s Dressage Team placed first this weekend at the Intercollegiate Dressage Association’s National Championships, held at Centenary College in Hackettstown, NJ.
JWU’s Dressage Team came in first out of 12 teams from 9 regions across the country representing the 50 member colleges. Members compete from Maine to Florida and from California to North Carolina. Each competing team won in regional competitions held throughout the year. The riders were randomly assigned horses at the competition, and had a short 10-minute warm-up to acclimate themselves before going in front of the judge. The dressage tests are ridden at 4 different levels, with each team entering one rider at each level.
Led by Assistant Professor Crystal Taylor, JWU was represented on team day by Chloe Cosgrove from Corpus Christi, Texas; Anne Appelbaum from Villanova, Pennsylvania; Tierney Hassell from Charleston, South Carolina and Jessica Mitchell from Derry, New Hampshire.
