Perakslis joined Johnson & Wales University in 2005. She teaches such courses as: Operations Management, and Contemporary Issues & Strategies in HR. Perakslis’ research focuses on group integration competencies, behavioral motivators, and the social implications of technology. Her involvement with industry includes the Executive Forum for Coleman Research Group, the Editorial Advisory Board for IGI Global, the IEEE Technical Program Committee for the International Symposium on Technology and Society, the Program Committee for the National Security Workshop, University of Wollongong, Australia, as well as a reviewer for John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

Perakslis is a member of the American Management Association (AMA), the Association for Operations Management (APICS), the Society of Social Implications of Technology of the Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE-SSIT), the Northeast Educational Research Association (NERA), the American Evaluation Association (AEA), and the New England Educational Research Organization (NEERO).

Prior to joining JWU's faculty, Perakslis held the post of Joint Chief Operating Officer of Champion Nationwide Services, Inc. (nka Freeman), which was the third largest general service contracting company in the meetings and conventions industry. She continues to operate in a consulting capacity in industry which serves to broaden her industry-relevant teaching. In accordance with the commitment of JWU to provide an international educational experience, Perakslis brings to the classroom consulting practice including work nationally, as well as in Australia, China, France, Germany, The Netherlands, and South Africa.

Perakslis’ awards include the Meritorious Writing Award granted by The Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP) for co-authorship of robotics research in 2004. In 2006-2007, 2007-2008, 2008-2009, and 2009-2010 academic years, the students of the Hospitality College voted Perakslis “Teacher of the Year."
