Can I change my room assignment after Room Selection? Room assignments cannot be changed prior to the upcoming academic year.
Can I change my room after I arrive? Beginning on the first day of classes, you can request a new room assignment in one of two ways:
Room changes do not occur earlier than October; however, moves could take longer as they are dependent upon available space. ORL will attempt to honor room/hall change requests as space allows, but they cannot be guaranteed.
After I arrive, can I just switch rooms with another person if they want to move, too? Room swaps are not permitted. This includes switching bedrooms in suite-style rooms or apartments (Renaissance, Snowden and Harborside Village). By completing room changes through our staff, we ensure that all parties are comfortable with the move; it also preserves the accuracy of our housing records for security reasons. If you make an unauthorized room change, you’ll be required to return to your originally assigned room; you will be fined a $150 administrative charge, and could face additional sanctions.
Can I move in early? For staffing and security reasons, we do not allow students to arrive before their assigned move-in day. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us.
I am in a triple, but there are only 2 people assigned to my room. Does that mean I will have extra space in my room? All available space will be filled before classes begin or directly after. If you have an empty space in your room, please keep it available for a new roommate to move in.
Can I ship my belongings ahead of time? We do not staff the residence halls until students arrive, so mail will not be accepted prior to move-in weekend. If your packages or mail are sent ahead of time they will be returned. Please plan for any and all shipments to arrive after you have moved into the residence hall.
How do I get a microfridge for my room? A microfridge will be in your room when you arrive.* If you and your roommates have not made payment arrangements with the Microfridge Company to keep the fridge within the first 2 weeks of class, the company will remove it from your room. To obtain pricing information and make rental arrangements, please contact College Refrigerators at 1-800-577-8041.
*Microfridges are located only in traditional halls. Renaissance Hall suites have full-sized kitchens; therefore, microfridges are prohibited.
What should I bring with me? See our itemized list of recommended items to bring depending on your room type.
What’s in my room? The university provides each resident with a twin extra long bed (regular twin sheets will fit), a desk and chair, dresser, and closet space. (Harborside Village residents receive a full size bed.) Sheets must be used on the beds for hygiene reasons.
What’s in my hall? Each hall has areas reserved for student use. Such areas include study rooms, TV lounges, billiards lounges, laundry rooms, and other similar locations. The areas are furnished and equipped for use by all members of the community.
If I live at Harborside Village, can I get a meal plan? There is no meal included with residency at Harborside Village. Residents can purchase meal blocks at Student Academic and Financial Services, which can be used at various dining facilities any day of the week.
Can I park on campus? Parking permits for day school students are handled solely by Safety & Security. In order to park on campus, you must have a university-issued parking permit. Edmund Hall, Hospitality Center and Renaissance Hall have limited space for upperclassmen only. (Space at these halls is determined by a lottery system conducted at the conclusion of Opening Weekend in Sept).
If you plan to bring a vehicle to campus, you must register it with Safety & Security upon your arrival. Parking permits can be purchased on a yearly or term basis. For more information about parking on campus, contact Safety and Security.
Can I have pets? Fish are allowed, but their bowl or tank is limited to 5 gallons; only one is allowed per room or apartment. Only fish are allowed in the tank. (No snakes, lizards, frogs, turtles, etc., even if they live in water.) If you are in doubt, call us before you bring it.
