Prohibited Items

Many items which you have in your room at home are not allowed in our residence halls due to fire safety regulations, federal, state and local laws, or University policy. Please read through this list and make sure you leave the following items at home. For the most up-to-date information on prohibited items, contact the Office of Residential Life. 

• Alcoholic beverages and containers (even empty ones)
• Narcotics, drugs and drug-related items (including prescription medications that are not in your name)
• Firearms, weapons, ammunition and related paraphernalia
• Explosive materials
• Gasoline, kerosene and other fuels
• Firecrackers and fireworks
• Combustible decorations
• Candles, lanterns or incense
• Chemicals of any kind
• Motorcycles or scooters
• Additional furniture
• Cooking equipment (i.e., grills, toasters, hot pots, hot plates, fry pans, etc.)
• Immersion heaters
• Refrigerators more than 1.9 cubic feet in size
• Microwaves (1 small microwave per suite is allowed in Renaissance)
• Air conditioners
• Pets, except fish in a bowl/tank under 5 gallons (1 per room)
• Halogen lamps
