You are expected to keep your room clean. Failure to do so may result in disciplinary action. Rooms are inspected every month by the Resident Assistants and again at the end of the term by the Residential Life coordinator and/or the assistant director of Residential Life. If you have a maintenance concern, you need to report it to the front desk of your building. Each front desk has a maintenance log available for work orders. In the event of an emergency, the front desk will call Facilities Management. Emergencies are determined by the Residential Life professional staff member on-call. All Arch Creek Place and Emerald Lake Hall residents should report maintenance requests to the front desk of Flamingo Hall; Palm Gardens residents to the Tropical Pointe front desk. Failure to follow these procedures may keep maintenance staff from being able to fix the problem in a timely manner. You are responsible for taking care of university property in your assigned room, including furniture, walls, bath facilities, carpeting, window dressings, etc. It is your responsibility to complete and initial a Room Condition Report and Key/Access Card upon arrival at the residence hall, so as to ensure that you will not be assessed for damage overlooked by maintenance or housekeeping staff. When property damage (whether voluntary or involuntary) is determined, the person responsible will be assessed damage charges. If the individual cannot be identified, everyone assigned to that room/apartment will be assessed equally for the charges. You will have 30 days from the last day of the term to appeal these charges. All appeals must be submitted in writing to the director of Residential Life. You are also responsible for damage to common areas such as the hallways, breezeways, lobbies, recreation and study rooms, trash rooms, laundry facilities, computer labs and vending machines. When property damage occurs, the responsible individual(s) will be assessed for the damage. If one cannot be identified, all or a portion of those residing in that residence hall or apartment may be assigned responsibility by the Residential Life coordinator, assistant director of Residential Life, director of Residential Life, or the director of Safety and Security. You will have 30 days from the last day of the term to appeal these charges. All appeals must be submitted in writing to the director of Residential Life. It is important to note that all rooms and buildings will be re-inspected once all students have been checked out. There may be other charges and/or disciplinary action taken for damage to the room or its contents and missing items not noted on initial inspection. Students may not repair any damages done to their rooms or apartments.
